Choosing the Right Horse Blanket

A horse blanket can keep a horse warm during the cold winter months or when they are outside training during the morning. These blankets are designed to keep the horse warm, but still allow them to have enough movement so that they will not be uncomfortable. A horse blanket should not be too long, and it should be made of wool or heavy cotton so that they will be warm throughout the morning and into the afternoon. But there are other things to consider when buying blankets for horses.

A horse blanket should be heavy enough to keep the horse warm, but it should be too tight or too loose because the horse may have difficulty moving. Since horses need plenty of exercise during the day, it is important to buy a blanket that fits. If the blanket is too loose, the horse may trample it can tear the fabric. This can be costly if the horse ruins a few blankets. Other concern when buying a horse blanket is washing it. Some fabrics can be washed more easily than others. Choose a fabric that can be cared for easily. A horse blanket can be expensive depending on how many blankets will be needed and laundered.

Horse blankets can be bought at feed stores, online, and in some hardware stores. Blankets come in a variety of colors and shapes. Some horse owners buy different colored blankets in order to make sure that blankets are not shared by horses. Sharing blankets can cause disease to be spread more easily which could result in many horses falling ill at once. This could be devastating for horse owners and for other owners sharing stall space. All horse equipment should be kept separate at all times so that horses do not share their illness with others during the winter months.
